Pathways to Treatment
Clients can access treatment through various pathways, including private care, Workers’ Compensation, Compulsory Third Party, or NDIS.
More Information
-
If you are paying for your treatment privately (ie. It is not through Work Cover or NDIS) you may be eligible for a rebate of $141.85 per session through Medicare. If eligible, your GP will create a Mental Health Care Plan and provide a referral to a Clinical Psychologist. This must be done before your first appointment to qualify for the rebate. Typically, the GP will refer you for six sessions. After six sessions, you’ll need to consult with your GP again for a re-referral. The rebate can be received for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Joanne’s fee is $230 for a 50-minute session. In an effort to make treatment as accessible as possible, the fee is well below the current recommended fee of $311, set by the Australian Psychological Society.
-
Joanne is a registered provider with most major health funds. It’s advisable to contact your health fund directly to confirm your level of cover.
While you may be able to claim a rebate from your private health insurance, you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and private health insurance for the same session. Generally, the Medicare rebate is higher than private health insurance rebates, so most people use the Medicare rebate for the first ten sessions within a calendar year, and then use their private health insurance for any remaining sessions.
-
Joanne is SIRA approved and offers psychological treatment for Workcover and CTP.
If you have a Workers Compensation or Compulsory Third-Party claim and your treating team believes psychological treatment will be beneficial, your insurance company caseworker can approve an initial set of six sessions of treatment. If further treatment is needed, approval for additional sessions can be requested after the initial set.

Joanne is not a NDIS provider but NDIS clients who are plan-managed or self-managed are able to access treatment with her.
